Welcome back to The becoming the big knee podcast. I'm your host,
Speaker:Djemilah Birnie, and you are tuning into minute madness, a
Speaker:little dose of epicness, delivered in five minutes or
Speaker:less.
Speaker:Me, and I wanted to talk to you about training your brain to
Speaker:listen to you training your brain for success. Have you ever
Speaker:experienced a situation where you tell yourself, you're going
Speaker:to do something, whether that be a workout, whether that be your
Speaker:something to do with your business, starting a podcast, on
Speaker:anything, whether that be reading a book, or going to bed
Speaker:at a certain time, or waking up at a certain time, have you
Speaker:experienced what you tell yourself, you're going to do
Speaker:something, and then you don't do it, and then you don't follow
Speaker:through. While the problem is, is that you have trained your
Speaker:brain not to trust yourself, when you say you're going to do
Speaker:something, and this happens, this is built through the small
Speaker:actions that we take. So your brain starts to not trust the
Speaker:things that you say you're going to do. So those are those small
Speaker:things, like waking up at a certain time, to those big
Speaker:things, like creating more success in your business, or
Speaker:buying that new house or whatever that goal is that
Speaker:you're you're trying to achieve for yourself, right. So the way
Speaker:that we build this trust in what we say we're going to do is
Speaker:through the little things is through those small, little
Speaker:things. And that's one of the reasons why I talk about you
Speaker:know, not using the snooze on your alarm. Because when you set
Speaker:the alarm for a certain time, you're telling yourself, I want
Speaker:to wake up at this time. And then when you go and hit the
Speaker:snooze button, you are starting your day off by breaking a
Speaker:promise to yourself, you're starting your day off by saying,
Speaker:Oh, I can't accomplish what it is that I said I wanted to
Speaker:accomplish putting it off, right. And that gets us into
Speaker:that state of not accomplishing the things that we say we want
Speaker:to and procrastinating on the things that we desire right away
Speaker:right from the get go from when you wake up. So how can you
Speaker:change this? How can you start listening to the promises that
Speaker:you've that you say you're going to do? How can you start
Speaker:teaching your brain to trust you? Well, it's what it's built.
Speaker:The distrust is built through those small habits, the trust is
Speaker:built through those small habits as well. As you began to build
Speaker:this back up, it's very simple, you just need to follow through
Speaker:with the things that you say you're going to do. And a very
Speaker:simple way to do this is to say you're going to do something
Speaker:right before you're about to do something. So say you are going
Speaker:to work out well, as you're pulling up to the gym, tell
Speaker:yourself, I'm going to work out right now.
Speaker:And then do it and follow through with it. And if you are
Speaker:going to read a book, as you're pulling out the book, you're
Speaker:prepared to read, tell yourself, I'm going to read right now, if
Speaker:you're going to start working on a project, as you pull out your
Speaker:computer, tell yourself, I'm going to work on this project
Speaker:for the next 20 minutes. And then do it right. And then the
Speaker:other big thing is that alarm and this is one that I know can
Speaker:be a little challenging to overcome when you have been in
Speaker:that habit of snoozing for years, like I know a lot of
Speaker:people are. But that is a really huge one is when that alarm goes
Speaker:off. That is the time that you intend to wake up and you need
Speaker:to get up. That's the first thing that's happening in the
Speaker:morning. And when you're not listening to yourself. And that
Speaker:intention that's just setting you up for the rest of the day
Speaker:to not listen to yourself. So those are my tricks on teaching
Speaker:your brain how to trust you so that when you say you're going
Speaker:to do something, your brain is working on your side, and it
Speaker:actually believes you and is going to assist you in getting
Speaker:that thing done. Right. So if you want to start training your
Speaker:brain to trust you for those big things for the things that are
Speaker:those needle mover tasks, then you got to start with those
Speaker:small things. And the way I suggest it is to start building
Speaker:that trust is to literally tell yourself that you are going to
Speaker:do something right before you're going to do it so you know that
Speaker:you're going to follow through and you know it's going to
Speaker:happen and through these small little things. Your brain is
Speaker:going to start trusting you and then remember to not snooze your
Speaker:alarm.
